I spent most of my life alternately engaging and disengaging from our society. Mostly it is because I am socially awkward, but another compelling reason is that I disagree with what everyone else is doing. When I went to college in my teens, and when I completed it in my 40s, I found a underlying, unspoken theme through most of my classes. I have grappled with the message's unspoken wisdom and attempted to follow its logic. Finally, someone has laid it out in its entirety, and it is causing a stir. I say bravo because our culture is destroying all of us, and we need to stop it now. Maybe this will be a rallying point, and the revolution will finally unfold.
What is the Story of Stuff? The
SOS website says:
From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.
